From the drawing board to 3D-modeling
|
Being employed with one and the same company over many years is no longer a matter of course nowadays. All the more, DESMA was pleased about many employees celebrating work anniversaries last year. In December the long-service employees were honored at a celebration. Special thanks for his loyalty go to Georg Hermann who has already been accompanying DESMA for 40 years - "from the drawing board to 3D-modeling", as he says.
Milestones, great leaps and a lot of changes were experienced by Georg Hermann, today the head of mechanical design. "When I started in 1968, we actually built just machines and moulds for the shoe industry, injection moulding of shoe soles." At that point of time, Georg Hermann worked as mould maker. After a short time he made a decision: "At the beginning of the seventies, I completed another education as mechanical engineer and continued to work at DESMA in this profession."
A decision which he has not regretted up to now, because since then he has been engaged in the development and design at DESMA. With the design team he then discusses the technical details of orders, builds, develops and makes tests. "Until the machine is ready!" And at the same time new machine types are being developed and innovative ideas are implemented which often are patented.
He still takes pleasure in his work. It is the uniqueness of each machine that delights him, for most of the time "special machines are built which are made almost individually for certain customers." This is, so Georg Hermann, a very demanding task, but the development work is particularly fascinating him.
For 25 years of tenure DESMA honored Birgit Frey (finances and accountancy) and Achim Leinmueller (process engineering center).
Markus Hoelle and Marianne Epple-Braun, also from the mechanical design department, were honored for being 10 years with DESMA.
For 10 years of loyalty were also honored: Markus Beck (design-mould shop), Denis Abler (service technician), Wolfgang Buehler (CAM programming), Karl Butsch (electrical design-hardware), Mustafa Ermis (machine pre-assembly), Thomas Kernler (process engineering center), Frank Spoeri (CNC production) and Adrian Stier (design-mould shop).
Milestones
A first and very important milestone for DESMA, the step from shoe industry to technical elastomer injection technology was witnessed by Georg Hermann in 1975: "This was really a great leap!", he remembers. Another essential step was the introduction of the new Benchmark series in 2000. "This was once again a highlight I have seen in the industrial and development history of DESMA."
DESMA is very well aware that the experience of its tenured staff is decisively contributing to the company's success and that only with their help such milestones are feasible.
