With DESMA to the "Middle Kingdom".

"Nĭ Hăo China!". Thus Jana Kunz could greet her temporary new home. For four weeks she took the opportunity to get to know the Chinese subsidiary of DESMA, its organization, the products and processes. In addition, the cultural impressions as well as attending the rubber trade exhibition APPLAS played a decisive role.
Heading for China!
During my studies at the dual-system university of Villingen-Schwenningen in Southern Germany and in the scope of my training as bachelor for business administration I could avail myself of a unique opportunity in the fourth semester: an internship abroad with a subsidiary. I embraced this chance and wanted to get to know a country far away from Europe. In this context DESMA offered me to undergo a four-week internship at the Chinese location in Wuxi regarding the subject organization and human resources.
Hence, very excited and full of expectations I travelled to one of the most attractive trading areas of China. Wuxi, a two hours' drive northwest of Shanghai, is with an excellent infrastructure and around 6 million inhabitants the location of the Chinese DESMA subsidiary.
"When in Rome do as the Romans do"
Against the background of my business administration studies it was a logical choice not to focus on one but to work in several departments of the Chinese enterprise. During the first three weeks I was made familiar with the workflows and activities of the personnel department, the accounting division and the sales department. For me the direct comparison with my training and study experiences made so far in Germany was very exciting: the manifold differences in culture, the way of organizing work and its intensity particularly impressed me. Getting to know this all and having to adapt myself to ever-changing situations were very important aspects of my stay abroad. The people's geniality, their excellent guest-handling and their support helped me a lot to find my way around in such a foreign country.
The Applas in Shanghai
Apart from the internship at the company, my participation in the rubber trade exhibition APPLAS in Shanghai was eventually the highlight of my stay in China. Here I was able to cooperate in the preparations, in the build-up and as booth staff. During this week I also got to know the Chinese seaport Shanghai - a booming economy metropolis whose picture is marked by the steadily growing skyline.
Experiences as souvenir
I owe this internship in China a lot of positive memories and experiences that I took with me to Germany. It was not only possible to meet new contacts but also to obtain an interesting insight into the Chinese culture, mentality and their way of living and working. These experiences are very precious souvenirs for me and I wouldn't like to miss out on them.
