Energy Expo - 4th International exhibition in the new energy hub of India

DESMA Energy-Expo 2009 Every two years the energy industry meets under the aegis of the CII in Ahmedabad, in the state of Gujarat, for launching new investment programs to meet the increasing energy needs in India. DESMA attended this event and informed in its presentation about turnkey solutions for the production of sillicone composite insulators and surge arresters.

The task of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) during the Rubber Expo is to create and sustain an environment conducive to the growth of industry in India, partnering industry and government alike through advisory and consultative offers. The CII is a non-government, non-profit, industry led and industry managed organization, playing a proactive role in India's development process. Founded over 113 years ago, it is India's premier business association, with a direct membership of over 7,500 organizations from the private as well as public sectors, including small and medium-sized enterprises and multinational corporations, and an indirect membership of over 83,000 companies from around 380 national and regional sectoral associations

The energy scenario in India

is characterized by two effects. India is both a major energy producer and consumer. The subcontinent currently ranks as the world's 11th greatest energy producer and the world's 5th greatest energy consumer. With an expected GDP growth of 7 - 8 %, the energy demand is expected to grow at 5 - 6 %. Commercial primary energy consumption in India has grown by about 700 % in the last four decades..

Thus it is not surprising that the company POWERGRID, which wheels about 45 % of the total power generated in India on its transmission network, plans as of October 2009 to include the addition of about 7,500 circuit kilometres of extra high voltage transmission lines and therefore strives for a transformation capacity of about 10,000 MVA (megavolt ampere). POWERGRID also wants to enhance the capacity of the national grid to more than 37,000 MW by the end of 2011 through strengthening of regional grids and building more inter-regional links. To this end, investments amounting to almost 12 billion US$ are budgeted for 2011.

Global investors for a vibrant Gujarat

Energy-Expo fairground 2009 The fair town of Ahmedabad, in the state of Gujarat, is considered to be the emerging energy hub of India. Highlight of this event themed "Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors' Summit 2009" was then indeed the signing of several memoranda of understanding to the value of 243 billion US$, with energy & power being the major sector with more than 520 million US$ and 29 memoranda of understanding by itself. The renewable energies as well were promoted with 1.13 million US$.

Wind energy is the fastest growing source of commercial energy in the world. And India, surprisingly enough, emerged as the world's 5th largest wind energy producer.

National exhibitors, e.g. Goldstone, Sintex Industries, etc. and international exhibitors like ABB, Forbes Marshell participated in the exhibition which was visited by both decision-makers and senior executives from the energy industry and high-level officials, state ministers, buyers from state, provincial and municipal governments.

DESMA's role in the Indian energy sector

The DESMA group has built turnkey solutions for the production of silicone composite insulators and arresters for electrical energy transmission and distribution that were adapted to the Indian market situation by the Indian subsidiary.

Till date, DESMA has installed more than 20 projects to the value of almost 5 million US$ including machines and moulds for short silicone insulators, long rod silicone insulators, silicone arresters and silicone cable accessories in India.

DESMA's customers like Goldstone Infratech and Deccan Electricals, who are having multiple rubber injection moulding machines, are leading suppliers of silicone composite insulators. They serve not only the POWERGRID corporation of India but also various state electricity boards across entire India.
