DESMA at IRC - progress through innovation.

As part of our "Bold & Modest" Initiative, DESMA will be using the IRC 2009 in Nuremberg to present various technical highlights, including: new compact format D969.400 SEALMASTER and new variable cold runner technology together with an in-depth look at chance management in the elastomer industry.

D 969.400 SEALMASTER for double-deck seal productionDESMA's best selling unit in its horizontal machine range is the D 969.300 SEALMASTER, successfully used for many years by leading seal manufacturers around the world. This machine has been the subject of continuous further development over the years in order to sustainably satisfy market demand for deflection rigidity and productivity. In addition to this, in the last two years, double-deck production with centrally located cold runner systems has become widely established, offering as it does up to 80 % higher productivity at only approx. 20 % higher capital investment costs. The travel and injection speeds have also been continuously further developed in order to optimise cycle times. In terms of injection units, pressures in the range above 3,000 bar have now become almost standard to better process high performance rubber mixtures. DESMA now offers optional injection pressures of up to 3,500 bar - obviously together with standard features such as retractable injection nozzles and minimised plate through openings to in turn minimise deflection.
The SEALMASTER series stands out overall due to its extreme deflection rigidity and very compact external dimensions. The columns are set in a square configuration to keep the sides of the mould always located between the columns. The large format fully hydraulic closing cylinder is covered virtually over the entire cavity area by the closing piston. The special column arrangement helps reduce both bending and deflections.

All of these basic principles and developments have now been transferred into our latest unit, the D 969.400 SEALMASTER. The large dimension opening strokes are standard to offer an excellent basic set-up for double-deck production.

Patented DESMA FlowControl cold runnerThis machine is also available with the latest version of the DRC 2010 controller, offering an intuitive operator interface. The implementation of highly efficient drive and control technologies is a given. This machine is on display featuring FlowControl cold runner technology and a mould designed and built by DESMA Formenbau together with associated automation.
The machine is also available with various options, including the patented FlowControl+ nozzle technology for dynamic heating time reductions.
Depending upon batch size, production costs can be substantially reduced whilst maintaining product quality. Another plus point is the substantial reduction in energy consumption per article produced.

New variable cold runner

In the past the use of cold runner systems for small production runs has only seldom been worthwhile. DESMA took a fresh look at this subject and has now developed a cold runner with a variable nozzle configuration, a design which has also been registered for patent protection. Designated the VARIO CRB, this cold runner allows for the first time the position of the nozzles to be mechanically changed across a wide range. This feature means a wide variety of different nozzle spacings is now possible. The result is that this cold runner is suitable for general use, whereby its versatility allows costs to be cut.

Practical technical presentations

In addition to these items, DESMA is also presenting a number of topics using multimedia techniques: for example on mechanical engineering and cold runner technologies, on project engineering and new technologies in heat time regulation, in services and know-how transfer and in application technologies. More is available on our fair website »

All these developments are also presented on our virtual fair stand from 29.06.

At the end of March DESMA began showcasing its new products and developments, as part of its "Bold & Modest" Initiative, on the world's first virtual fair stand in the elastomer industry. Visit DESMA around the clock and find out the newest information on the latest developments. more »
