DESMA celebrates delivery of its 600th cold runner system / Mould construction now also opened in the US subsidiary!

FlowControlDESMA recently celebrated the shipment of its 600th cold runner system. Mould construction has continually expanded in recent years to become a very important business activity.
This segment now generates sales of approx € 6 million. Cold runner technology also boasts highly significant sales volumes.
The development of the patented FlowControl cold runner system gave this growth a major boost. This new cold runner technology already accounts for over 40% of the total cold runner turnover in the current fiscal year.
An important advancement in FlowControl cold runner engineering was presented at the DESMA Open House 2008, and is expected to boost sales in the segment even further.

The new machining centres are the best way of constructing moulds and cold runners in-house with dimensions up to 1,700mm x 1,200mm. The vertical range of manufacture of cold runner systems is currently well above 90%. The two-deck cold runner blocks are also growing strongly: this technology for an efficient two-deck production is mainly used in horizontal injection moulding machines.

The mould shop division is largely specialised in large moulds for the electronics industry, and moulds for the seal industry. Because these industries use expensive materials such as FKM and silicone, cold runner technology is basically the only sensible choice. DESMA's mould development centre at Fridingen now has a workforce of 35.

To ensure that the company can maintain close contacts with its mould construction customers around the world, the company is now setting up its own mould shop at its US subsidiary in Hebron. The North American market will be served locally from here with a completely new machine pool. The use of the same IT systems ensures close co-operation with the mould shop team in Germany. The main benefits for customers are much closer contact and direct communications.
Maintenance and service of the mould and cold runner systems supplied over the years in the region can naturally also be carried out locally. Client training seminars on technical issues are also available on site, to ensure that all operators are properly trained in the efficient use and maintenance of the moulds and cold runner systems.
Another price benefit at this time is certainly also the current exchange rate. The main advantage though is the close proximity to customers. Due to the project engineering services and the process engineering centre which have been already well established for many years at the US location, the addition of a domestic mould shop supports much more the rapid implementation of complete production systems.
