DESMA successfully concludes series of CIP workshops.
|
On 15 March 2009, DESMA successfully concluded a series of 15 CIP workshops (CIP - continuous improvement process). The CIP workshops actually kicked off in June 2008.
The workshops focused on the quality of products, processes and services at DESMA, with the overall goal of introducing continuous improvements: the emphasis was on achieving effects which were quick, significant, robust and sustainable.
The CIP workshops adopted a holistic approach across the various departments of preassembly, final assembly, design, mechanical production, mould design, sales, administration, goods in/warehousing, procurement and Customer Care Centre.
Targets also included the identification of new synergies, reviewing possible solutions in terms of feasibility and concentrating on cross-disciplinary/cross-departmental collaboration: in keeping with these aims, department workshops always included representatives from other areas.
A single CIP workshop had participants ranging from between 20 and 40 persons in number.
The workshops generally kicked off by first agreeing on basic rules of communication, design and generating ideas.
Each of the individual CIP workshops presented between three to six projects previously identified by the various departments concerned. The next move was a brainstorming session followed by collection and discussion of ideas and solutions on the individual projects with all concerned. After the midday break all participants then visited a "marketplace" at which they had the opportunity to discuss the ideas and proposals once again in smaller groups, seeking complementary ideas as well as details and refinements. This phase often included the outlining of concrete approaches to actual implementation.
In order to then secure project realisation, the participants formed up into autonomous project teams, naming a project leader to accept overall responsibility.
The CIP workshops ultimately generated more than 60 CIP projects, the majority of which have been successfully implemented.
The workshop series was assessed as being very positive by all concerned. CIP projects are an excellent platform for efficiently and effectively identifying in-house improvement potentials and also provide a quick means of implementation avoiding excessive red tape.
