New T-machines: More throughput, less assembly costs

New T-machine The unremitting efforts of the design engineers to continuously improve the DESMA machines bear fruit again: The latest generation of T-machines the main feature of which is the lateral injection saves time and money compared to the forerunner models.

T-machines are notably used for big injection units - here there is no need to lift the material, it just has to be made available laterally at the machine - and for long, bulky articles such as high-tension insulators. Since the lower mould half does not move vertically as for T-machines, it is not necessary to actuate the support of these products.
On the new T-machines the engineers substituted the hydro-mechanical clamping system for full-hydraulic systems. This results in less movements, less error sources and less wear. Further, this allows for a faster closing movement.
Secondly, the injection and hydraulic units are now available in one piece. Hence, only two instead of three components are required to be transported and assembled. "This saves assembly costs up to 10,000 € and with a service life from 15 to 20 years even several times, because the machine is often relocated", figures out Volker Krell, the Head of development. A modified design that gives the remainder of the two subassemblies the necessary rigidity made the changes possible. However, above all, this new design reduced the working height and therefore provides a lot of assets for ergonomics.
