DESMA Trainees in the Ruhr Area
|
30 DESMA Fridingen trainees and their training supervisors made a trip towards the Ruhr Area.
This outing that took place at the beginning of the new year of training was also meant to make the
integration of the 6 new trainees into the group much more easy.
On the first day, the trainees visited the roller plant of the pipe manufacturer Mannesmann in Mühlheim/Ruhr.
This company belongs to the same parent group as DESMA - the Salzgitter AG. The young people could gain an
interesting insight into the production of large-scale metal sheets made out of steel slabs of several tons
weight for the pipe manufacture. After checking into the youth hostel in Duisburg, the trainees dealed the
whole evening with the topic "communication" as part of a staff development program in the college of
physical education "Wedau".
On the second day the young people from Fridingen visited the former coal mine "Zollverein" in Essen that
after its closure became a World Heritage Site in 2001. In the afternoon they continued their trip to "
Gelsenkirchen-Schalke" where the entrants were guided through the "Veltins" football stadium (s. picture)
that is considered one of the most modern stadiums in the world - the size of which very much impressed them.
Afterwards, a canoe tour on the "Ruhr" was scheduled for the afternoon, but due to the bad weather it fell through.
Instead of that, they did an alternative program in the clubhouse of the canoe club, i.e. the trainees worked on
the subjects "teamwork" and "teambuilding", moderated, as the evening before, by an external coach.
After two hard but impressive days in the Ruhr Area, the trippers started their way back home. This outing
also encouraged the social competence of our trainees to which great importance is attached in both their
apprenticeship and their further (working) life.
